8 reasons to grow your own salad greens right at home.

VALUE, TASTE & NUTRITION GO HAND-IN-HAND.

1  NUTRITION. Nutritional value decreases every day after harvest. Those greens grown in California or Florida harvested who knows when? By the time they get to your plate, they have lost much of their nutritional value and taste. And micro greens contain up to 50 times the nutritional value of their mature vegetable counterparts, making them a true superfood on your plate.

2  VALUE.   Micro greens you grow at home will cost you a small fraction of buying at the supermarket. Growing your own salad greens at home takes only minutes a week, and will make you completely salad-independent, year round.

3  CHEMICAL FREE. Inexplicably, Health Canada testing has shown that more than a third of imported "USDA certified organic" produce tests positive for toxic chemical pesticides. And chemically-grown produce like conventional lettuce and spinach have always tested as some of the most contaminated items in the supermarket produce isle.

4  NO PACKAGING. Supermarket salad greens and micro greens come packaged in heavy single-use plastic "clam shell" containers.  Not a great choice for the environment. And the bleaching and gases used to wash and pack imported commercial greens greatly reduces nutritional value, especially important anti-oxidants.

5  TASTE. Once you taste freshly harvested greens, you won’t want to go back to bland supermarket offerings.

6  HEALTH  Micro greens are loaded with micro-nutrients and anti-oxidants.  And when healthy, tasty plant foods taste great, they displace the unhealthy items in your diet.

7  SAFE With the increasing frequency of e-coli and other contaminants in imported salad greens, finding a safer alternative is a wise choice.  Using clean, organic seed and soil, growing at home produces a pristine product that is so clean you don't even need to wash it.

8  EAT BETTER, FEEL BETTER A diet rich in fresh leafy greens is a great way to improve your diet, increase nutrition and make your meals tastier and more interesting. On a vegan diet, or going more plant-based?  Adding fresh greens is a great way to add tons of flavour and tremendous micro-nutrient value to your meals.
